Little Red Rooster (02-09-1964)

Keith Richards & James Cotton tijdens oefensessie voor Hubert Sumlin Benefit concert.

The Rolling Stones on "Big Beat '65", an Australian TV show, Melbourne, 29 januari '65. The performance was all playback, so I decided to try and enhance the sound a bit. * Hope you like it. Brian Jones played slide guitar AND harmonica (though Mick Jagger is miming the harmonica on this video). Brian's outstanding musical capabilities made this song to this day the only time a blues song has ever topped the British pop charts: it reached number one in the UK Singles Chart on december 5, 1964 where it stayed for one week.

"Little Red Rooster" was recorded September 2, 1964, at Regent Sound in London. Others state that it was recorded at the Chess studio's in Chicago, which I doubt, for in that studio several outstanding early Rolling Stones songs were recorded in true stereo..

By the way: can anyone tell me who that guy is at 0.33 seconds? He definitely is not a member of The Rolling Stones...

Recorded September 2, 1964. Released as a UK single on November 13, 1964, and was a #1 hit. Released in the US on the album "The Rolling Stones Now" on February 12, 1965. November 4, 1966 on "Big Hits (high tide and green grass)".

Electric slide guitar & harp: Brian Jones. Vocal: Mick Jagger. Acoustic guitar: Keith Richards. Drums: Charlie Watts. Bass: Bill Wyman.

LITTLE RED ROOSTER
(Willie Dixon)

I am the little red rooster
Too lazy to crow for day
I am the little red rooster
Too lazy to crow for day

Keep everything in the farm yard upset in every way

The dogs begin to bark and hounds begin to howl
Dogs begin to bark and hounds begin to howl
Watch out strange cat people
Little red rooster's on the prowl

If you see my little red rooster
Please drive him home
If you see my little red rooster
Please drive him home
Ain't had no peace in the farm yard
Since my little red rooster's been gone
